I began making the Ed's Wood Arizer Solo Stem as an alternative to the stock glass vapor stems that come with the Arizer Solo. Measure in at 4” in length at just a little over a 1/2” OD to fit snug and secure in the unit. These will fit all 3 Solo devices. Each has 4 slots to provide for better airflow. A 1/2” screen is installed with a retaining clip over the top, so it never falls out. Being wood they are virtually indestructible. All pieces have a 14mm tapered mouthpiece making them usable as a water pipe attachment!
My Wood Arizer Solo Stems are made from 4 different species, African Blackwood, Nicaraguan Cocobolo, & Guatemalan Granadillo. Blackwood is by far one of my favorite species to work. The finish is the finest of all I feel. Cocobolo is my second in line of favorites with so much life and vibrance. Granadillo is a choice wood that reminds me a lot of Hawaiian Koa but much denser.
I have designed and am making all stems now with a completely new wood/bushing connection. Making it easier with less hassle for cleaning & maintaining its longevity. Each stem comes with a few extra screens and now 3 high temperature orings. There is a small groove in the wood shaft that presses into the stainless-steel bushing that holds an oring. The shaft is then pressed into the SS bushing and held in place securely with a compression fit. Having the oring allows the user to simple slide off the bushing to easily remove the screen while leaving the clip in place. You can then take a cotton swab dipped in high proof alcohol and swab out the inside of the stem and bushing. Let it dry, place a new screen under the clip, the oring should still be in good shape. If not, simply take the old one off and slide a new one on. Press the shaft back into the bushing for a solid fit.
Please do remember, these wooden stems should never be washed, soaked, submerged or dipped in any liquid ever! This will cause the wood to swell and may crack, surely it will discolor, and neither is good!
Be advised, as with all my work its natural as Mother Nature intended. There may be voids, worm holes, live edges and raw features. Each piece is unique and no two are the same. The piece you receive most likely will not be exactly the same as what is pictured but will be a beautifully unique handcrafted unit.

Bought one in cocobolo. I had a couple questions for Ed at the time and he was awesome about answering them! A couple of notes about my experience. I love the stem now but I wound up doing a couple things first. The first time I tried it I hated the taste. I haven’t read about anyone else with that problem so I thought maybe I didn’t like some volatile compound in the wood. I put it in the oven at 425f for about five minutes. After that the taste was much less intense and has since faded to undetectable. Second, I wound up reversing the ss bowl. With the notches at the end, the vapor was too diluted for my liking. It felt like leaving the carb open on my dynavap m7. It’s there because some people like it, but I don’t. So I just moved the screen to the same distance from the other end of the ss cylinder (1cm) and reversed it. Vapor density improved a lot. Maybe Ed should mention that option in his product description. It’s dead simple if you have the tool to remove/place the c-clip.
Heck yeah, appreciate the review and all the time you put into making it work for you. I haven't heard anyone mention what you have, that's ok if this works for you then work it right! I am glad to hear that you are enjoying it and are finding it to be effective for you. I hope you do so for a long time to come. If I can do anything for you in the future pls let me know.
Definitely a must have for Solo III or any others. Smooth and much better with the heat then glass stems.
Thanks so much for sharing your feelings on that piece, I am glad you are enjoying it hope you do for a long time to come. If I can do anythign else for you pls let me know.
I love the black stem it looks very classy, as well as very functional I will say I didn’t notice a huge difference from the high airflow, but just being able to travel with the security of knowing my peace won’t break makes this worth every penny. Also while the shipping took a couple days it eventually got to my door in tiptop condition. Hope I have it for years to come.
The Blackwood is definetly one of my favorite species, very elegant and sexy yes! Glad it made it safe and its working well for you. If I can ever do anything else for you pls let me know.
The XL stem really opens up the fantastic airflow even more for the Arizer. The feel of wood and steel beats glass for me. It takes a bit of work to get the packing and grinding (course grind works better for me) dialed in, but the flavor can't be beat.
Tahts what I was hoping to hear, thank you. Grateful what I have been able to do has enhanced your experience with that device. Hope you enjoy it for a long time to come. Thanks for sharing if I can do anything else for you in the future pls let me know.
Great product...well made!
Only used a few times...but love it.
The wood definitely cools the vapor down
Thanks Ed!
