Eastern Red Cedar Dugout and One-Hitter
Several years ago, it was that time of year down here in the south, it was the fall of the year was rather warm, a tough weather front was coming at us from the south west, it turned really severe and one thing led to another, a tornado spun out of the storm and ripped across our state from one side to another, was really bad. Fortunately none of my family had any serious damage but it did track across my property, I have eighty acres of old family land, hard wood trees and lots of hills, it downed several of the big trees on the land and just destroyed about thirty acres. Rather than let all that great wood go to waste I grabbed my saw and began salvaging what I could. These pieces are made from the biggest Eastern Red Cedar I had on the whole place, it was over 24″ diameter with the most beautiful heartwood center I had ever seen, deep rich reds to dark purples almost with hints of cream scattered throughout. I got a ton of boards out of that tree from my local sawyer.
These wooden dugouts are the same size as they have always been, 4” tall x 2” wide x 3/4” thick, slim and sleek, an easy tote, with a lot of punch!
Be advised, as with all my work its natural as Mother Nature intended. There may be voids, worm holes, live edges and raw features. Each piece is unique and no two are the same. The piece you receive most likely will not be the same as what is pictured but will be a beautifully unique handcrafted unit.
